6/8/10-6/11/10: Louisville Bats vs Syracuse Chiefs

Another team we only see for one series. This time the Louisville Bats (AAA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) came to Syracuse. Homer Bailey was rehabbing for a game. Overall, a few tough/prickish guys. Yonder Alonso was one, he signed a couple, but I was never even close.

Cards:

Louisville
Homer Bailey - 1
Wladimir Balentien - 5
Ted Power (Pitching Coach) - 1 (plus 1 extra)
Chris Burke - 3
Jared Burton - 4
Chris Valaika - 3 (including a Juan Francisco that actually pictures Valaika)
Michael Griffin - 1 (Game Used Card)
Jon Adkins - 2

Syracuse
Jason Botts - 4 (plus 2 extra)

Cards This Series: 24, Overall: 287

6/4/10-6/7/10: Durham Bulls vs Syracuse Chiefs

This was our only series between Syracuse and the Durham Bulls (AAA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). It was great to have two good signing prospects, such as Desmond Jennings and Jeremy Hellickson. Shockingly, even Angel Chavez signed, and he rarely ever signs. Overall, a great series. I was even able to get a few guys on my new Harrisburg team set.

Cards:

Durham
Xavier Hernandez (Pitching Coach) - 1 (plus 1 extra)
Elliot Johnson - 1 (2 extra)
Angel Chavez - 1
Alvin Colina - 1

5/24/10: Richmond Flying Squirrels vs Binghamton Mets

We decided to go down to Binghamton for a AA matchup between Binghamton Mets (NY Mets affiliate) and the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants affiliate). I tend to make this a must see matchup, since we never see any other San Francisco affiliates. We ended up going for batting practice and the game, so I was able to get a few Binghamton guys, too.. Also, yet again Kurt Manwaring showed up, as a rover for San Fran. Glad I was prepared.

Cards:

Richmond
Darren Ford - 1
Roger Kieschnick - 1 (GU Card)
Matthew Klimas - 1
Kirt Manwaring (Roving Instructor) - 4

Cards Today: 20, Overall: 218

5/22/10-5/25/10: Toledo Mudhens vs Syracuse Chiefs

This was our only series involving the Toledo Mudhens (AAA affiliate for the Detroit Tigers). It was nice because we had rehabbing Carlos Guillen there. He was alright at times, kinda miserable at other times. However, it was easy to get him when he was distracted trying to impress women lol. Overall, not bad for a team that has been tough at times. Max Scherzer was a miserable jerk after the first day.

Cards:

Toledo
Robinzon Diaz - 1
Brent Dlugach - 2 (plus 1 extra)
Leon Durham (Hitting Coach) - 1
Alfredo Figaro - 2
Carlos Guillen - 4

Cards This Series: 18, Overall: 198

5/10/10-5/13/10: Norfolk Tides vs Syracuse Chiefs

After the awful Gwinnett series, it was nice to have this Norfolk (AAA affiliate of Baltimore Orioles) series. It was especially helpful to have a morning game. It was also helped out that so many were obsessed with Stephen Strasburg, that I was able to have much more room with the away team.

Cards:

Norfolk
Robert Andino - 5 (plus 4 extra)
Jake Arrieta - 4 (plus 2 extra)
Michael Aubrey - 1 (plus 1 extra)
Josh Bell - 1
Adam Donachie - 1
Brandon Erbe - 1
Joey Gathright - 9

Mike Morse - 4
Ron Villone - 2 (plus 1 extra)

Cards This Series - 53, Overall - 180

5/6/10-5/9/10 Gwinnett Braves vs Syracuse Chiefs

This was an awful series between Syracuse and the AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves (Gwinnett Braves). Of the four games, the last two were rainouts. Just awful for a team you only see one series.

Cards:

Gwinnett
James Parr - 1
Chris Resop - 1
Freddie Freeman - 2
Mitch Jones - 1 (plus 2 extra)

Syracuse
Kevin Mench (1 extra)

Cards This Series: 5, Overall: 127

4/23/10-4/26/10: Rochester Red Wings vs Syracuse Chiefs

This time Syracuse faced the AAA affiliate from Minnesota Twins...the Rochester Red Wings. As usual, they were pretty easy to get signed.

Cards:

Rochester
Jacque Jones - 2
Tim Lahey (1 extra)
Jeff Manship - 2
Mike Maroth - 3
Ryan Mullins - 2
Wilson Ramos - 1
Floyd Rayford (Hitting Coach) - 2

4/21/10-4/22/10: S-WB Yankees vs Syracuse Chiefs

Another two game series for the Chiefs. This time against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees (AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees). This is usually the only good time to get these guys, before they put security out and the supposed Yankee fans show up. Overall, not too bad, as usual.

Cards:

S/WB
Jonathan Albaladejo - 3
Colin Curtis - 1
Greg Golson - 1
Jason Hirsh - 1 (plus 1 extra)
Kei Igawa - 4
Zach McAllister - 1

Kevin Whelan - 2
Butch Wynegar (Batting Coach) - 1

Syracuse
Chris Duncan - 2

Misc
Rob Ducey (Scout) - 3

Cards This Series - 22, Overall 90

4/12/10-4/13/10: Buffalo Bisons vs Syracuse Chiefs

Second series of the year for the Chiefs, this time against the New York Mets' AAA affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons. Ike Davis was a key pickup in this mini-series for me. Overall, not bad for an early April mini-season.

Cards:

Buffalo
Manny Acosta - 1
Russ Adams - 1 (plus 2 extra)
Ricky Bones (pitching coach) - 2 (plus 1 extra)

8/31/09 and 9/1/09: SWB Yankees vs Syracuse Chiefs

This series was the typical Yankees clusterfuck. Of course, the fair weathers love the fact that Francisco Cervelli and Ramiro Pena were there, at least for the first game. The shitty thing about the date of this series, is that Sept callups occur on Sept 1st, and the Yankees are the type of team that says fuck it, lets call up whoever we want..we got the money. Lines down the whole 1st base side, made this shitty. They had security on the field *rolleyes* and even Yankees player Mike Dunn and I had a laugh about them being up the players' asses. AAA ballplayers shouldn't be treated like $20 million dollar men. But I digress. PS - Cervelli blew everyone off, Ramiro Pena was a douche, as was Ivan Nova. Over three months later, I can remember this..if that shows how douchey they were. On the contrast, Jason Hirsh was hilarious.

8/22/09-8/25/09: Durham Bulls vs Syracuse Chiefs

Although I hate to do this, I am going to group this whole series in one post. How sad is it that two weeks before the end of the season, the Syracuse Chiefs play Durham (Triple A affiliate for Tampa Bay) for the ONLY time this year. This four game series was interesting. Rob Ducey (scout) was there, as well as a rehabbing Akinori Iwamura! I was able to kill off a lot for this game one. It rained during game two, and I left it early. They weren't bad, except for Fernando Perez, who is a douchebag. Thanks for ruining my pen, dick. Also, game two (Saturday 8/23) was autograph night for the Chiefs. I was able to kill off my remainder with them, even with the rain, since they signed in the concourse.

8/15/09: Rochester Red Wings vs Syracuse Chiefs

Last game of the year between these two teams. It was a great finish for the team, with little left over. I even lucked out and got Jose Lugo in my book, when we didn't expect him to be around. It was also Wall of Fame night. It sucked, as Rick Leach no showed, however Geno Petralli and Jon Ratliff showed. Ratliff was in the stands a bit, while Petralli never made it to the stands, instead being in the Chiefs dugout. After the game ended, I spotted him and was able to get him to come sign from the field. Was a great spot by me!

8/11/09: Toledo Mud Hens vs Syracuse Chiefs

Only time we see Toledo (Triple A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers), and the great schedule maker allows only 3 days for 4 games. This means that today's game is a scheduled doubleheader. What a rip off. Rehabbing with Toledo: Jeremy Bonderman, Nate Robertson, Dontrelle Willis. They snubbed or hid today. Bob Boone showed up again, so I was able to kill off my remainder of his.

7/31/09: Charlotte Knights vs Syracuse Chiefs

Final game of the series and for a good bit in Syracuse. Not a whole lot left to get, but I had decided I would try to get Van Benschoten. Yeah, swift move. I yelled his name three times while he was in the dugout. We assumed the first two times, since there was no reaction, that he could not hear due to the loud soundsystem in the stadium. Well, we realized we were wrong when he screams "WHAT" after my third call. Yup, still a prick. Surprisingly, however, after the game, someone got him to sign, so I was able to get my book. Well, he wasn't able to fit in the hotel van (weird on the final game of the series that they didn't have a bus to leave in), which helped me as someone else asked him to sign on his trip out for the second arrival of the van, and he signed what I had left. Yeah, the autograph means little to me except that I finally conquered the jerk. Also, we lucked out to realize that Justin Cassel, whom had been called up to Charlotte a few days before, was actually charting in the stands. We figured he'd be like most and just show up at their next stop.

I had hoped to get one more Elijah Dukes, as he was called up mid-game, but I was unable to get to him. Also, I missed an Aaron Poreda card, as by the time I heard he was traded, the hotel van was at the gates picking him and the others up, whom were traded. Bummer, but oh well.

7/28/09: Charlotte Knights vs Syracuse Chiefs

This starts the first of a four game series between Syracuse and Charlotte (Chicago White Sox's Triple A affiliate). For this game, six NBA player were signing autographs. This was due to Syracuse University hosting SportscasterU, a program for these players to learn to work in the media, for when their careers were over. Not bad, as many didn't know about it, so I was able to get everything signed (thanks to Dave Ryan telling me to keep going thru the line!) We also got a printed sheet of paper with the pictures of all 6 guys on it, which I got signed too. Pretty good day, especially since pitching coach Richard Dotson was one of the nicer coaches I've met.

7/25/09: Louisville Bats vs Syracuse Chiefs

An awful weather day. Just as the game ended, the rain decided to come. Luckily, since the security cronies weren't around, the few of us around were able to stay undercover, which was also extremely helpful on killing off the majority of Louisville items I needed. I was even able to get to the Syracuse side before Dukes and Patterson left, which was even better! Glad I got Manuel and Roenicke as they were called up before the next day's game!
